ccTLD

country-code Top Level Domain.

ccTLDs are two letter extensions based on 31661 country codes. They relate to a country or other geographic location. For example, .de for Germany, .co.uk for United Kingdom, .fm for Micronesia, .eu for European Union.

Each ccTLD is administered by the registry of the corresponding country, better known as NIC. After being accredited by ICANN, registrars can offer ccTLD registration services to the Internet users.

Over 240 territorial extensions currently exist. The oldest extensions remain the most popular. In fact, the .de domain names are the most registered, with more than 9 million registrations.
