Generic Top Level Domain.

gTLDs are generic extensions not attached to a territory. There are two kinds of gTLDs: sTLDs (Sponsored Top Level Domain) and uTLDs (Unsponsored Top Level Domain). Here are a few examples: .com, .biz, .info, .travel.

For historic reasons, a few extensions are granted to the United States: .gov for the US government and .mil for the American army. Dot com is the most popular extension with over 50 million registered domain names.
